3. On average domestic dogs can run at approximately 19mph. The fastest breed of dog is the Greyhound, which can reach 45mph.
4. The first dog sent into space was a stray named Laika. Laika was launched into orbit in 1957 by the Russian government. Unfortunately, she died in space.
5. Despite common belief to the contrary, dogs are not color blind. It is thought that dogs have vision similar to that of humans at dusk. Their ability to distinguish between colors is just as sharp as the average human.

13. The tallest breeds of dog are the Great Dane and the Irish Wolfhound. The smallest breeds are Toy Poodle, Yorkshire Terrier and Chihuahua.
14. Dalmatian puppies are completely white at birth. It is not until a few weeks that marks start to immerge and often it is not until adulthood that these become completely black.
15. In 1992, Countess Karlotta Libenstein of Germany bequeathed the equivalent of $106 million to her German Shepherd Gunther III. This vast wealth was invested by trustees and the figure tripled. When Gunther IV was born, he became the wealthiest dog alive.
