Thinking of a career in New Zealand during your travels
?
Kia-ora and welcome back. This article is to provide guidance for people that are considering emigrating to New Zealand and securing work. Perhaps the most important fact to consider if this is you - is the current economic climate. No doubt that that global recession, although showing signs of recovery in many countries, is still present. Countries such as Ireland, the UK and America are suffering badly and will do for some time to come.
Fortunately New Zealandappears to be slowly getting by ok and, "treading water". This is good news if you are seriously looking for work here, especially if your skills are in demand. If you are considering emigrating to New Zealand then it is safe to say that you will have difficulty finding work if you are not able to attend an interview in person (which has is always been the case). Some of the lucky few, such as doctors, PHD's and the like have a distinct advantage and will no doubt be able to secure work via a teleconference interview, video conference or even via email.
A good starting place to look is Trade Me This is the New Zealand equivalanet of E-bay but with punch. I have purchased all my vehicles, rental properties and jobs - yes jobs, from Trade Me. It may sound obsurd, but high profile jobs areadvertised on Trade Me. A second option is to check out SEEK. (I have a section of this on my website)This specialises in international careers, but to be honest Trade Me is in actual fact better in my opini on. Another option is to check the jobs section of the New Zealand Herald - kind of like the equivalent to the Times. If you are generally looking for information on all things New Zealand, then simplytype into Google "Google NZ"...then start searching. You will be suprised at thedifferent searches that are returned. Simple I know but easily overlooked.
I often read on forums and the like what the equivalent payis in New Zealand (which makes me laugh somewhat)You simply have to do your research, becauseyou will not always find a direct comparison - this is the other side of the globe after all. Also be prepared to expect a drop in salary of around 20% and a reduction in leave & redundancy entitlement. The latter is not too much of a concern however, as redundancy insurance is easilyavailable from the banks from aroundNZ$20 per monthwhich would cover you from around $3000 per month. Middle management salary, but it is still a tidy sum if the unspeakable happens.
Anyway, keep looking, keep researching and good luck. Check out my website, feel free to ask any questions which I will gladly answer.
Kia-ora,
Snapaenz.
