Three Keys To Self-employment

There have been various studies on the personality traits of entrepreneurs

. Some will tell you that it takes a type A personality to be successfully self employed. Others disagree and say that it just takes certain traits and not just one specific type of personality.

Through my own experience, I'm not so sure that it takes a type A personality to start your own business or be successfully self employed, as I wouldn't consider myself to have a type A personality, yet I have been successfully self employed for over 10 years. However, I do agree that it takes certain personality traits to start and run your own business.

Having determination, being committed and unafraid to take risks are all important personality traits you need to have.

In order to be successful at starting and running your own business, you must be determined and committed to do so. It takes time to build a business, no matter what it is. Without determination/commitment, it is very easy to get discouraged and call it quits before things have even had a chance to get moving in the right direction.

Determination is all about "wanting" something, and if you really want something, you will commit yourself to achieving it. This is what you need if you're serious about being self-employed.

There are often many obstacles that present themselves on the road to running your own business and being your own boss. When problems arise, it will be your determination and commitment that helps solve those problems and keep you moving towards whatever it is you have set out to achieve.

If there is one thing you cannot be afraid to do when it comes to self employment and that's taking risks. The decision to start your own business and work for yourself is a risk in itself. No matter what your business is or what service you provide, there will always be risks involved. It's just part of the formula and there is no way around it. It is okay to feel scared? Absolutely! You just can't let that fear stop you from starting your own business if that is what you really want. If someone else can do it, you can do it too. But just like them, you will need to be able to face the risks head on and work as hard as you can to minimize or eliminate them.
