Tiger Woods snags first round lead at Chevron World Challenge
12.02.2012 In one of his better rounds of golf in 2010, Tiger Woods took a one-shot lead over the U.S. Open champion Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy in the Chevron World Challenge in Thousand Oaks, CA during Thursday's first round play.
Woods missed only two greens and putted for eagle four times on Thursday, netting him a 7-under-par for a 65. Woods played great all day and made it all the way until the 18th hole before he popped up his tee shot, which forced him to pitch out from behind a tree, where he went on to two-putt from 50 feet away, resulting in a bogey.
Even with that bogey, Woods matched his best score of the year, which has been a very down year, to say the least, where he stood atop the leaderboard for only the second time this golf season. Although, he struggled with his putter, which has continually plagued his game all year, he shot well with his irons all day long.
"It's not too often you can say I shot 65 and only made one putt, but that's kind of what I did," Woods said. "I only made one putt, and it was on 9. The rest were either two-putts or kick-ins. It was a good ball-striking day."
Altough, the current world number one, Lee Westwood is not playing, nor number three, Martin Kaymer, or number four, Phile Mickelson, the field is filled with golf's best in Los Angeles, CA all weekend competing for the major purse prize.
Stay tuned in for all the latest Tiger Woods news as he competes to win his first tournament of 2010 at the 18 man field, Chevron World Challenge.
