Time Tested Home Remedies For Head Lice

Head lice infestation is a very irritating condition as it results in itching of the scalp and is also sometimes accompanied by a rash

. When the lice move around on the head, there is a crawling sensation experienced by the victim. Though these lice cannot jump or fly, they can easily transit between two heads! Close interaction or by using the personal items like for example, comb, pillow, towel, hat, etc of the affected person help to facilitate easy transit for the lice.

As this is not a serious illness and as there is no potential threat of pain or injury to the body, home remedy is the perfect option for the treatment for lice infestation. The downslide is that though there are many home remedies, only following a regular head lice treatment regimen can show results.

Garlic is one of the home remedies for lice infestation because their pungent smell helps to repel lice. Mix garlic paste and lemon and apply it on the head and leave it overnight by covering the head with a shower cap. Wash your head next morning. Repeated treatments have proved in getting favorable results.

Henna treatment is also a good home remedy as henna is supposed to clean up all the bacterial infection as well as lice infestation in the head. The paste of henna should be applied on the hair and after 2 to 3 hours should be washed off with a mild shampoo.

White vinegar is a home remedy for lice infestation. Two teaspoons full of vinegar should be diluted with six teaspoons of water and applied on the head. This also eliminates the head lice eggs, nits that are found attached to the hair shaft. This mixture should be left overnight on the head and washed off the next day for better results.

Custard apple has also been acclaimed as a good home remedy for lice infestation. The pulp of the fruit should be grinded along with its seeds and applied on the head. Allowing the paste to stay in the head for some hours can guarantee good results.

Olive oil has the capacity to smother the nits and eliminate the lice completely from the head. Coconut oil when infused with neem is also a good home remedy for lice infestation.

In conclusion, even the simple act of combing with a special comb meant for removing lice and nits can show good results. Care should be taken to comb the hair from the shaft to tips for at least five minutes a day.
