Tips For A Happy Hot Tub Experience

So, you took the plunge, bought a hot tub, had it installed

, and are ready to start enjoying it! Not so fast, though. We want you to make the most of your hot tub, but the best way to do that is to be knowledgeable about proper hot tub care and usage. That's why we suggest that you read our tips and that you keep them in mind as you start using your hot tub.

Our first tip applies to those who have installed their hot tubs indoors. This is a smart choice, since it makes the hot tub enjoyable all year round, but it does require a little more thought than a traditional outdoor hot tub. The biggest key for the indoor variety is to make sure the area is fully ventilated. You'll want to have lots of windows and doors that can be opened to help you and other hot tub users breathe easily and not experience eye, nose, and throat irritation, all of which are common when using hot tubs in an enclosed area. If you didn't choose wisely in terms of your hot tub's placement, don't panic! A simple exhaust fan should do the trick.

This second tip applies to all hot tub users! We know that the joy of having your own hot tub is that you can essentially do whatever you want with it. This doesn't mean, however, that some of those boring old rules posted at the spa or local recreation center don't have some truth behind them. One rule to keep, even in your own home, is to always shower before using your hot tub, and tell your guests to do the same. Just a quick rinse before taking the plunge cuts your risk of contracting an illness, and also keeps your hot tub's water cleaner.

This one might sound kind of funny, but if you or a guest have long hair, make sure to put it up into a ponytail or, better yet, a bun before entering the hot tub. Long hair tends to shed, which can make a real mess in the hot tub. Furthermore, long-haired people run the risk of having their hair sucked into a filter or a drain. Ouch! It's better for everyone to have long hair tucked up and safely away.

Finally, make sure that you use good common sense when it comes to your hot tub. Clean it on a regular basis, using high quality products, and get it professionally serviced as needed. Be sure to stay safe in your hot tub too! Don't use your hot tub for extended periods of time, without taking a break, as this can lead to dehydration and getting overheated. Also, don't mix prescription drugs or alcohol with a jaunt in the hot tub, as this could lead to serious injury or even death. As long as you follow these tips and use your head, your hot tub should be a real joy!
