Depending on the acting class or school of your choice, you can finish the classes anywhere between a few weeks and the traditional four years.

People who are just getting into the acting business have quite a few misconceptions about how the casting process works. Casting, in fact, is done mainly in small theaters, where agents look for new, fresh talent.

To best define an agent, he or she is a person who helps an actor find work, in exchange for a small percentage of what the actor would earn for the role. Getting an audition for a role is easy - all you or your agent would need to do would be to mail a resume with picture to the director or casting coordinator. Finding the right agent can be made easier if an actor or actress is aware of how the casting process works. Research is the key to finding an agent that suits your needs. Casting directors can even refer an agent for you, but nothing beats researching for one yourself. Take some classes, work on some student projects and then keep knocking till you find an acting agent that is genuine.

Before you leave your home, make sure you have your headshot and resume neatly assembled, the address and a map to the audition, and the phone number of the contact person in case you get lost. Younger actors would be advised to start out auditioning for their school's graduate and/or undergraduate programs.
