Tips On Developing A Positive Self-image During Pregnancy

Pregnancy affects every woman in a different way

. While some women embrace the changes that pregnancy brings, others may feel unhappy about it. Generally, women who have a positive self-image prior to pregnancy may not have a hard time adjusting to the changes. But for somebody who has negative perceptions, it may be harder to cope with all the changes. Feeling good about oneself should not be based on your external looks. It's really more about how you feel about yourself, in spite of all the imperfections.

Based on recent research, women who gain more weight during pregnancy may have had misperceptions regarding their pre-pregnancy weight. A woman's body can indeed change remarkably during pregnancy. The variety of changes can bring about mixed feelings in a woman. Dealing with these emotions may be hard, especially if the people around you are not at all supportive.

It is then essential for a woman to understand why her body needs to go through these changes. The changes in the body during pregnancy happen so fast so it can be difficult to develop a positive-self image all the while. It is a fact that the physical changes are normal. The body needs to to adapt so that it can support the needs of the growing baby. Knowing what to expect during pregnancy, may allow a woman to feel more in control of the situation.

It is possible to work on ways on how you can enjoy your pregnancy and leave out negative thoughts. Hormonal changes may trigger nausea and vomiting initially, but as these symptoms pass, you can actually enjoy your pregnancy more. Let your emotions out. By talking openly to your partner and loved ones, you can build a good support network. Surrounding yourself with people who can share their insights, may allow you to focus more on your baby instead of the negative comments coming from others.

Pregnant women need to be conscious of what they're eating, even if they've already been eating healthy prior to pregnancy. Going on a diet is not an option during pregnancy. Instead, you can be selective of that you eat to avoid further weight gain. Your caloric requirement automatically increases during pregnancy as you eat for two. But this doesn't mean that you can start eating junk food or eating more than what is necessary. Excessive weight gain, after all can cause complications like gestational diabetes and high blood pressure.

Exercise will always be good for the body, and it can also improve your mood. If you receive a go signal from your doctor to have physical activity, then check your options. There are exercise classes for pregnant women you can join to keep your spirits up. The people you meet there may also become an informal support group since you are all experiencing similar changes.

For others, pregnancy can make them feel so uncomfortable that theytend to shy away from socializing. It's okay to stay home especially if you have a high-risk pregnancy. If you feel unfomfortable in your pre-pregnancy clothes, go out and shop for new maternity clothes that fit well to your new shape. It may help boost your confidence when you know that you can still wear fashionable clothes despite the changes in your body.

Having enough free time to nurture your well-being is also important. Take time to get some fresh air, or you can go out on dates with your partner. If your schedule is too full, prioritize your tasks and work gradually on achieving them. Try not to let stress get the best of you, because it may also affect your self esteem.

A woman's pregnancy experience is always one of a kind. All the changes in a woman's body happen for a very good reason - to support a life. Enjoy this time, keeping in mind that as your pregnancy ends, your motherhood begins.
