One of the most popular free email clients is Gmail which is Google's email product. The reasons why so many people love Gmail is because it is fast, gives you a lot of storage space for all your emails and makes it easy to find particular emails with its search functionality. With so many people using Gmail, not many are using all of the tools available to make your Gmail experience more productive and easier to use. Here are some tips and tools you can use fro your Gmail accounts.

One of the best ways to find out if you got a new email without being on the Gmail account page is by using Google Notifier. Google Notifier shows an alert above your system tray on your desktop with a preview of who sent the mail with its subject. If you wanted to open up that email message all you would need to do is click on it and it will take you to it.

Another cool tool to use if your using the Firefox browser is an extension called DragDropUpload. DragDropUpload lets you drag and drop files over a file selection dialog. In Gmail, you can drop files over Attach a File link and you can drag multiple files at once and drag it on attach a file link to attach multiple files.

If you're like me and have a lot of contacts in your address book, there is a good chance that you have duplicate contacts which makes it even harder to find a contact at times. If this sounds like a problem you have then you should definitely check out Scrubly. Scrubly is a free tool online that can scan your entire address book looking for duplicates and if it finds any it will pull them out for you to review and remove if you chose to. The other cool thing about this is that it will also save all of your contacts for you so that you always have them on file to access anywhere.

If you've ever subscribed to a mailing list, then you know about the long threaded e-mails in Gmail relating to a long conversation. If you would like to not receive a notification when a new mail arrives from a particular conversation, you can easily mute it. When you mute a conversation, you will not receive any further unread notice of that conversation, though it can be shown using search for is:muted in Gmail.
