Tips to Ask for a Raise
Millions of people around the world while sitting at their desks in their offices
after a long day at work thought to them that it is no way they are paying me enough to do my job. People usually think that they are doing too much work but your company or boss may not think in the same way. Getting a raise largely depends on the working conditions you are in and either you are eligible or not to get a raise. But still if you think you should march into the boss' office and demand a higher pay then better to look at the given points first and make your mind accordingly.
Figure out What Your Strengths Are
The first thing you need to do is to figure out all of your strengths and make a list of them. Your purpose for doing this is to look for things, which actually make you unique and exceptional in the organization. Once you have made the list of all the things that make you unique and powerful candidate for that respective job then you stand a better chance.
Put Yourself in their Shoes
The next thing you should do is to keep yourself at their place and think about it. For instance, if you own this company, would you pay your employee as much as you are demanding? Obviously, in most cases your answer will be yes to this question. But the reality is a little different, what you tough may not be tough for the company. For them what they pay for the job may be very fair wage. But to change their minds you have to come up with really a solid reason.
Outline Your Day
Another way is to outline your daily routine. This means that what you do in a day. By putting your coffee breaks, and chitchat aside, you can make a record of your daily workload. If any other reputed company pays $5 more for the exact job you can mention that too. You have to collect all the required information that is necessary to impress the higher authorities such as whether you are doing more work than you were hired to do. For this you will have to present any visual aid to support your point, which you can present before your manager or boss. Don't go for making a chart or graph for your work history, a small piece of paper with all the information written on it is enough.
Threaten to Quit
This is the last thing that you can use to convince your boss to pay you more. If you have really become fed up with your job and hate everyone else there and the only thing that can make you stay there is more money then use this as your last weapon. Make sure that you really want to quit the job before threatening your high commands to quit. If you don't want to quit and just using it to bluff then don't go for it for you may have to end really badly.
