There are a lot of people out there who struggle with a slow metabolism. Growing up, I was one of those people. That's until I set out to speed up my metabolism so I could burn more fat off my body. And, believe it or not, it's not as hard as your think to speed your metabolism up. I'll show you some of what I did right here that aided me in my quest for a leaner body.

Factors Affecting Your Metabolism (Greatest to Least):

Muscle Tissue

Meal Frequency

Activity Level

Food Choices

Hydration

Genetics

Hormone Production and Function

Stress

Even though some of these are at the bottom of the list, that does not mean they aren't important. Each of these directly affects your body and can be the cause of a slow metabolism. When you gain control of each of these, however, you'll find that you will speed your metabolism up in no time!

So why does your metabolism slow down? Hint: It isNOT because of your age! Research shows that your age has nothing to do with the rate at which your metabolism burns fat. What it really comes down to is how much muscle you have. The more muscle you have, the faster your metabolism will ultimately be. And you won't lose muscle due to aging either. You'll only lose muscle due to lack of physical stress aka when you stop working your muscles out for a period of time.

The Major Causes of a Slow Metabolism Are

You lose muscle mass due to the lack of physical stress or working out.

When you are "dieting" and skipping meals, your body cannibalizes muscles when it needs the energy it isn't getting from a food supply.

Your activity levels tend to decrease as you get older.

How Do You Jump Start Your Metabolism?

Step 1: Stop the Storage of New Fat


Now there's no point in starting any new exercise program or diet plan if you're going to just keep putting fat on. How do we get fat? Not due to a lack of exercise. It's because we tend to eat things that have large amounts of calories in them, and thus oversupply the body. With this excess supply of calories, the body converts some of it into fat to be stored for later. That doesn't mean eat like a bird or cut out your favorite foods. It's very possible to eat the foods that you want to while still giving your body only what it needs. So in short, in order to stop your body from putting on excess fat, it all comes down to your dieting!

Step 2: Attack Existing Fat

This part is simpler than you think. In order to break down any existing fat, it comes down to two things: diet and exercise. The right amount of foods and the right workout plan will help you shed off any existing fat. Make sure you're still incorporating foods you like into your diet so you can enjoy yourself and keep yourself from getting bored eating foods you don't like. Also, make sure your exercise plan is detailed and easy to follow. Consistency is key with both of these things.

By now, you should see why you may be struggling with a slow metabolism. Everybody everywhere usually struggles at some point with this. Take these two steps and apply them to your life, and you'll see that you can speed up your metabolism and set yourself on the path to burning more fat in no time!
