To Get Your Ex Back - Remember, You Can't Always Get What You Want
If you have been deserted by your ex and now trying desperately trying to get your ex back, there is a critical lesson to be drawn from just two lines of the song penned by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards way back in 1969 - You Can't Get Always Get What You Want. While the first lesson is in the title itself, the second one is somewhere in the middle where they write that 'if you try sometime you find you get what you need'! Nominated by the Rolling Stone magazine in its 2004 list of 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, this song can put you on the right track to get your ex back, as it aptly mirrors both sides of any relationship.
If one was to put the moral of the story in the first line, it could be to limit your expectations in a relationship. While you pine for your ex and want to get your ex back at any cost, you also have to keep in mind that the primary reason for the break up could be that you expected the world out of your ex. However, you are not alone. Many of us make this critical mistake when we fall in love. There is a host of desires that lay dormant in our subconscious of all that we want our lover to be. When these match closely with the qualities of someone we meet, we fall in love. The unfortunate truth about falling in love is that many facets of our lover remain only in our dreams. When we find that our lover could meet those aspirations, only half way, we fumble and get disillusioned. The result is a break up. Therefore to get your ex back, you have to accept your lover for whatever he or she is. It is pointless, to expect your ex to be someone who you always 'wanted' - this is calling for disaster from the first step onwards. Humans are what they are; you can never change someone to make him or her tailor-made for you.
But then, the second part of the song is also an important pointer. If you try, you can get someone who you need. Note the subtle difference between the words 'want' and 'need'. While to get your ex back, you may not get always what you want but you can always get someone you need - someone who comes closest to your mental image of a lover or a person who you want to spend the rest of your life with. In the context of getting your ex back, 'want' has more to do with what you demand, but 'need' has more to do with what complements you and makes you a more complete person. This is a vital clue to look for when you want to get your ex back.
Most importantly, aim to get your ex back, without having to make any effort to 'change' the person. The opposite is also true, that is, to get your ex back, never make any tall promises that you would 'change'. Of course this does not mean that you are not going to make any effort in 'changing' some ways which are coming in the way of keeping the relationship healthy and happy. But intrinsically, you would still remain the same - so to get your ex back, you have to ensure that your ex understands this, in the right perspective.
