While the iPhone changed the world of cell phones, the Palm Pre is the best of breed phone encapsulating what the business user and consumer need from a mobile device. It's more fun than a Blackberry and more serious than an iPhone. Here are the key reasons why I like the Palm Pre: Palm offers a true multitasking mobile platform. The Palm Pre offers true search from any function you are in, by just typing in your prompt, (a feature that others are now trying to emulate but actually has been around in other Palm devices for quite some time). GPS navigation while you are on a call or access the Web at the same time too. The ability to pull all your contacts wherever they might reside - Google, Outlook etc. This is important because it makes organizing one's life far easier than using a Blackberry and being confined to corporate email. The Palm Pre allows you to receive email from work, from friends (separate private accounts) and so on, all by synching with Gmail using imap. An interface that even beats the iPhone and is a joy to use with the ingenious sweeping motion that makes an iPhone look old hat. Apps for the Palm are becoming more available daily and Palm is offering a$100 Amazon gift card to encourage developers to create apps. (Not something you would see Apple do.) A slide out keyboard for the serious business user that is far more comfortable, accurate to use and quicker than an iPhone virtual keyboard. The ability to back-up to your desktop so that even if gmail servers go down, as recently happened, you still have your data. Together with a more affordable monthly contract with Sprint, it is by far a better package price than the iPhone with AT&T.
