Yeah, this is the most common use of canvas covers in America. Those who are in their teenage are quite too aware of the joys of camping outside. Canvas covers are used more than that anything else because they are cheap and they last much longer than any other form of fabric. Canvas is also biodegradable and do not cause any harm to the environment they way synthetic materials do. Thus campers favour these over any other covering.

2. Sailmaking

This is another reason why Americans recognize canvases. These are cheap and are used extensively in making sails for boats and other sailing vessels. We are sure that there are stronger materials that canvas these days, but not many are willing to leave good old canvas in favour of anything else. Back in those days, there was nothing more durable and flexible than canvas covers. Sail makers could easily sew in as many things they wanted into the sail and yet the integrity of the material would not be jeopardized. There were several techniques which were applied to make sails stronger.

3. Painting

Painting on canvas has been as old as the discovery of the material itself. There were painters who painted on hardened cotton, tree barks and what not before they found the best material for their artistic pursuits.

Those who used canvas extensively have been using wood to paint upon, however, wood has its shortcomings, the biggest of which was under primed woods. Often the oils used in paints would seep into the wood, propelling its rotting procedures. Very soon, the wood would turn yellowish destroying everything on top of the wooden canvas. Thus, painters quickly transitioned to canvas the moment they discovered its potential as the new medium.

We can go on and on about several different uses of canvas covers. In every house that has a car, also has canvas covers for the vehicle, at least the environment consciousness ones do have canvas covers instead of synthetic plastic materials. So are you environment conscious?
