Once Upon a Time in America was directed by Sergio Leone. It's his last film and one of the most moving. This soundtrack was composed by Ennio Moricone, one of the best film composers of all time. The main theme of the film sounds like a western music. It's one of the most powerful pieces I've ever heard in a movie. You'll probably fall in love with the Debora's theme. Deborah is one of the greatest female characters in Sergio Leone filmography. She is a really strong, intelligent and funny girl. Like a lot of women she falls in love with a bad guy. So the theme is about love and maybe also about his impossibility between the two main characters. This is the kind of music which will help you go through difficult experiences but also think about the nature of life. In the film, you can also hear the jazz standard "Summertime" and the Beatles song called "Yesterday".
Elephant Man and Lost Highway by David Lynch
David Lynch really knows how use the music to convey emotions to the audience. What better example than the Elephant Man? Samuel Barber's fabulous composition called "Adagio for Strings" at the end of the film is one of the greatest cinematic moments ever. You will definitely be moved by this movie. As a matter of fact, a lot of people told me that the movie really changed their lives.
David Lynch's movies are often creepy. Lost Highway is the kind of movie you will remember for his bizarre atmosphere. Not only because of David Lynch great directing but also thanks to the music. There is some classic songs during the film including "This Magic Moment" by Lou Reed or "I'm Deranged" by David Bowie. But Angelo Badalamenti compositions really help the film to be a bizarre but unforgettable experience. If you enter the David Lynch you will find extremely hard to exit it.
