Top Businesswomen Consider Their Female Inpirations And Role Models

A range of top UK businesswomen have been asked to name their favourite female role models

. Innovation and leadership Speaker Lucy Marcus and inspirational business and motivational speaker Laura Tenison and have been considering the women who inspired them in both their work and personal lives.

Laura Tenison is the Founder and Managing Director of JoJo Maman Bebe winning numerous accolades along the way including an MBE and the 2010 Veuve Clicquot Business Woman of the Year award. Laura's business has grown from strength to strength and her talents lie in her entrepreneurial abilities, her work life balance, and her interests in corporate social responsibility. Laura's own role models have included Anita Roddick and her very own work colleague Sandra.

"As a Welsh girl growing up in the 1980s, my own female role model was Laura Ashley, but I felt a little disappointed that her husband seemed to be in charge of finance. Then Anita Roddick came along and I loved her determination that environmental issues should be brought to the fore. But my real female role model is Sandra, the packing supervisor at JoJo. She has brought up numerous children excellently (we employ some of them), has survived personal tragedy, is a hands-on granny and has theGuinness World Record for her dog's plastic bottle recycling habit. JoJo Maman Bebewould be a sad place without Sandra and her family."

Lucy Marcus' talents also continue to extend far and wide. As a Fellow at the University of Cambridge's Judge Business School she teaches on business leadership and innovation and also works with investors to strengthen their businesses and funding projects. She is currently the CEO and Founder of Marcus Venture Consulting and her inspirations stem from childhood memories and strong values.

"As a young girl I found Jo from Louisa May Alcott's Little Women a real inspiration. She was feisty, independent, hard-working, idealistic, impulsive but well-intentioned and unstoppable. As an adult, there is no one person I think of as a role model, but rather I draw inspiration from a collection of women friends, acquaintances, and even those I read about who are doing interesting and challenging work. Their examples of fortitude, courage, bravery, and integrity in their everyday lives and in the workplace helps me aspire and strive to do things that might otherwise feel beyond my reach."
