I remember the first day that I burnt a song onto a CD
, it seemed like magic. Around a decade ago this was the only realistic way to transfer files and documents, it took a very long time and the amount of space on the CD would only be enough for 80 minutes of music.
Nowadays, the way we transfer data is unrecognisable. We can send files to our friends over the internet and we can store terabytes of information onto our computers hard drives or by using an external one. The most dramatic change comes when we look at USB sticks. Today, a large proportion of people carry with them a device the size of a rubber that can store huge amounts of data upon them. There are so many to chose from on the market, here are our top five to help you out:
1.Edge Diskgo 3.0 As you may guess from the name this has incredibly fast file transfer due to its USB 3.0 port. Its clever design helps to protect your data of which you can store up to 32GB.
2.Transcend Jet Flash Again coming in sizes up to 32GB this device has the ability to transfer files in lightning quick time. The only downside is the lazy design which leaves you with a cap to protect the port that you will inevitably lose on its first day of use.
3.SanDisk Cruzer Switch A big name in the memory storage business, Sandisk know what they are doing. Unfortunately they have stuck with the slower USB 2.0 port but what they lose in speed they have made up for in features. It incorporates an easy to use encryption programme that can be used with both PC and Mac. This is a great value for money option if speed is not such an issue.
4.Corsair Flash Voyager This is a robust option that boasts a 3.0 port. It is shock and water resistant and is built to last. Unfortunately design flaws like a separate cap and a lack of security features sees it slip down the leader board.
5.Imation Swivel Back to a slower data stick with a 2.0 port this just about the only negative point from the product. The design is classic and practical and it also offers a free to use password encryption programme to keep your files safe. Unlike our other USB sticks the Swivel can be bought in a 64GB size.
