Top Tip: Building Muscle Mass
It's recommended to get at least 30 minutes of exercise a day (though now it's increased
to 1 hour due our nation's current situation regarding obesity and diabetes), but of course not everyone keeps up with this recommendation. People are busy, people are lazy, and they make excuses-"I don't have time," "I'm tired, I'll do it tomorrow," "Well, I walked a lot yesterday."
Some people get their 30 minutes to an hour in by doing little exercises at home like crunches or leg lifts, or they do these exercises to fix little problem areas on their bodies like flabby inner thighs and stomachs.
They're interested in building muscle and burning away fat in those regions, so they are indeed exercising regularly. However, "exercise" is supposed to mean cardio. Your blood needs to get pumping, your pores need to start sweating, and the air needs to puff in and out of your lungs.
The point of exercise is to burn calories and get your circulatory and respiratory systems working. Losing weight and getting healthy requires taking more action, literally. So others will tell you that you need to work out instead of subtly building muscle mass in order to see results.
Your muscles won't show if they're still buried underneath a layer of fat. Building up muscle replaces some of the space that fat takes up to some extent, but cardio exercise is the way to go, or better yet cardio mixed with muscle building.
And exercise isn't the only thing; diet plays a key role in losing weight. You can burn calories, but you can also prevent yourself from eating them in the first place.
For those who are interested in building muscle mass to get ripped and buff and not losing weight, muscle exercises are definitely an essential component of your workout, and they'll be more intense than amateur crunches.
Diet and rest are very important to building muscle mass the right way. Eating whole foods gives you the nourishment necessary to build up muscles and rest helps build muscles-muscles actually get stronger during the recovery process, not during the workout itself.
Also, people building muscle mass should actually gain weight, not lose it. Muscle is heavier than fat, and in this case being heavier doesn't mean being unhealthy. Weight is really just a number, and what's really important is being fit, healthy, and buff to boot.
