Back in the days when package holidays were the rage and club 18 to 30's were at the height of popularity, resorts like Torremolinos were famous with the beer swigging lager louts that once plagued many resorts in Spain, Greece and Portugal. Thankfully those days seem to be behind us and current visitors to Torremolinos come to admire its charm and character.
Torremolinos has worked very hard to shake off its former reputation and it is now up there as one of the main holiday resorts to visit. The beaches are extremely clean and there are lots of activities for young children and adults alike.
Torremolinos is the closest holiday resort to Malaga Airport and was on of the reasons that it was the first town to actually become a holiday resort, giving birth to the term 'package holidays'. Back in the sixties and early seventies the little fishing town of Torremolinos grew quickly and unattractively into a major holiday with high rise buildings and hotel after hotel.
But these days it has quietened down massively and is back to the elegance you would hope and expect from a traditional holiday resort on the Costa del Sol with many Spanish heading to Torremolinos during the summer to enjoy the Spanish restaurants and beach bars.
Torremolinos has a long promenade which now extends all the way to Benalmadena and the town boasts many shops and designer boutiques.
If you are looking for a mix of relaxation by day and the nightlife by night (if you want it) then Torremolinos could be the ideal choice for you next Spanish holiday.
Even if you have chosen to stay elsewhere on the Costa del Sol a trip to Torremolinos is still recommended and being that it is on the major transport routes and roadways, it is easy to get to and from.
