Toyota Dealership In Libertyville May Have Plug-in Pruis In The Future

Toyota continues its comeback from the recall debacle

. First they offered great deals on popular models with zero percent financing and free service for several years. Now they are continuing and further publicizing their pilot program for the new Prius plug-in model. Although your Toyota dealership in Libertyville does not have them in the showroom yet, the company is getting closer to offering the fully-electric Prius to the public.

Toyota announced months ago that about 150 of the plug-in Prius models would be contracted to government agencies, universities and corporations around the United States for test driving while their performance in recorded and reviewed in several areas.

Now Toyota has released a partial list of the lucky few who will get to drive these cars before anyone else. Some of them include Qualcomm, Southern California Air Quality Management District, Silicon Valley Leadership Group, University of Colorado, University of California, Berkeley and Portland State University.

Toyota Libertyville dealers are curious to see how these groups react to and interact with the plug-in Prius and whether having a large test group will help create a more personal buzz about the car. This plug-in was unveiled during the Sustainable Mobility Seminar recently.

Many of us would like the opportunity to try out a vehicle like this, but perhaps the fact that these cars will be widely driven in a pilot program in America will help iron out any problems and make the truly road-ready. It may even help foster creative plans for charging plug-in vehicles on a large scale, since that electricity grid we keep hearing about for the future doesnt seem to be in place yet.

If you shop a Toyota dealership in Libertyville, be patient. These plug-ins are bound to make their way to the showroom eventually. Lets face it; most of us are not quite ready for the reality of a plug-in. Even though the speed has been vastly improved and the number of miles which can be driven on one charge has been extended, they are not practical for most of us in daily living just yet. Although for a car-about-town or a carpool the plug-in would probably be perfect.

The Prius plug-in, known as the PHEV, will run on a three-part lithium battery pack, a rather new concept. The packs will be used up one at a time and the car engine will then automatically shift to the next pack. Once all three are depleted the car will need to be fully recharged. Toyota has not given specifics on how long the battery pack will take to charge or how much it will cost to fill up on battery power. It certainly has to be cheaper than filling up at the pump!
