Toyota Etios Diesel Will Be Launched On December 2011
Toyota Motors is savoring the sweet taste of success with its recently launched car
model Toyota Etios Sedan and Toyota Etios Liva which was unveiled during the launch. The company is now mulling over the launch of a diesel version of the Toyota Etios. According to a company official, the company plans to launch the diesel version of the Toyota Etios in December 2011.
Koji Nagata, the Director for Marketing of Toyota Kirloskar, said that the company is studying the decision to make a diesel model of the Toyota Etios and they are hoping to launch it by December of 2011. The car could put some good competition with Nissan Micra Diesel as well as other cars. The Nissan Micra was just launched December 10 this year.
Toyota Motors that is now operating a joint venture with Kirloskar Motors in India is planning to increase their localization of components specifically for Toyota Etios by 90% as their current standing is only at 70%.
The model of Toyota Etios sedan that was launched in Bangalore on first December has a 1.5L DOHC engine that can churn out a power of 90 bhp and a torque of 132 Nm. It also offers a mileage of 17.6 kmpl and is priced at Rs 4.96 lac. It is set to go on tight competition with other car models such as the Maruti Swift Dzire, Ford Ikon, Tata Manza and Hyundai Accent in the Indian auto market. The hatchback version Toyota Etios Liva that is set to enter the Indian market in April 2011 will have a 1.2L engine that offers 80 bhp. It will be priced at Rs. 4.2 lac- the expected figures.
It looks like Toyota is all set to dive into the over crowded but opportunistic market with its models. To give Toyota a head start, the Toyota Etios model bagged bookings of 3077 units in just two days of its launch. Of course, only time would tell if the Japanese car pioneer will maintain its reputation in such a competitive market. Another model that is making its way in Maruti Swift Diesel that is also making waves in this market segment.
