When you are training for a bicycle race you have to make sure that you are utilizing all of your options

First, you want to make sure that you are getting to know the course that you are going to be biking on. The more that you know about the course the more prepared you can become to ensure the workout is beneficial.

You should know how many times you are going to have to go up hill and how long you are going to be going up hill for. The more that you know about the hills that you are going to be going up the better off you will be.

Knowing the grade that you will be going up is also something that is important. When you are training you have to make sure that you are developing the muscles that you need to succeed on the course.


This means that you should be participating in a healthy combination or weight lifting, cardio training and bike riding. The more that you know about your body and what you need to improve the better off you will be.

After you know the course you should start biking the course or a similar course on a very consistent basis. The more that you are able to practice on this course the better off you will be when the day of the race comes around.

As you are biking the course you can time yourself through different portions. Finding ways to trim down your time will help you in the long run when you are trying to fight for first place in the race.

There are a lot of people that do not know what they are doing when they are training for the race and they train in a totally different area. As you are getting to know your course you will be much more successful on race day.

Weight training is something that can be very difficult to start when you are not in shape. You have to make sure that you do not over do the weights or depend fully on the weights to keep you going out on the course.

Your weight training is something that should supplement the work you do but cannot replace the cardio training that you need. When your heart is not in good shape you will not be able to make it through the whole course.

Taking the time to practice on harder courses may also be a great idea. When you are able to push yourself to new limits you will be much more capable of making it through the course that you are racing.

There are not a lot of people that understand this concept. Push yourself harder than you need to on race day and you will be much more able to perform when you are out on your own course trying to compete.

If you live in an area that is prone to having bad weather you should also make sure that you are practicing indoors. When you are on a bike indoors you have to make sure that you are trying to simulate the course you will be riding to the best of your ability.

This may require a lot of self-control. When you are on the bike indoors you are going to have to put your body through a lot of self-inflicted pain as you push yourself to increase the intensity of the hills you are going up and down.


As you are learning what your body can and cannot do you have to make sure that you are aware of the signs that your body is giving you. There are a lot of people that do not understand what their body is trying to tell them so they end up getting hurt.

No matter where you are training or what kind of exercise you are participating in you have to make sure that you are working hard enough to see results but not pushing the limits too far. Finding this balance can take a long time.

You can successfully finish a workout that will help you come closer to accomplishing your goals for your race. The more that you are able to work on your exercise before your race the better off you will be on the day of your race.
