Training a Golden Retriever by:Michael Corben
Golden retrievers are known to be devoted, well behaved
, reliable, and trusting dog, thus training goldens is easy. Golden retriever is indeed an intelligent breed that is why they are very popular. Golden retrievers are ideal as a family pet, guide dog, sporting dog, and other services.
Training golden retrievers are quite easy as compared to other types of dog. For as long as you start to implement the training while the puppy is still young. It is important to know that you should guide your dog to grow in a right track so that he will become a well behaved adult dog. Doing this can save you from a lot of headache in the future. To help you with this, listed below are some training tips for your golden retriever.
Preparation
Prepare your home and have a clear mindset before even starting to train your puppy. Have a clear house rules- Make it clear if there are off limit rooms. Specify if the dog is allowed on the furniture or not. Bear in mind that goldens love to chew and I would presume that you don't want them munching on your favorite pair of shoes or furniture. Make certain that poisonous chemicals are locked up. This is because golden puppies are very inquisitive. The most important training that you should teach your golden is toilet training. Prepare outside toilet of gravel for your golden outside. You are going to get him used to it as soon as possible.
Toilet Training
Toilet training your puppy is the most important activity. You need to keep a close eye on your puppy. The moment that you notice that he needs to go, you must take him outside as soon as possible. Normally, puppies would occur approximately 30 minutes after a meal. Sometimes, you will be able to notice your dog circling and sniffling around. This is an early sign that he needs to do it. Once you notice these signs, gently take your dog outside and let him do his business there. If he did it successfully you would have to praise him with enthusiasm so that he will be able to get the message. Goldens are very eager to please humans and picks up well on your positive reaction. However, if your dog will make a mess inside, do not scold him, instead just ignore him and clean up the mess quietly. Soon he will be able to know where he should go.
Crate Training
This should come next to toilet training. This is important in gaining control over your dog specifically if you are out of the house. This will give you the assurance that your puppy is safe even if you are not around to watch over him. Make your puppy used to his crate as soon as possible, and always keep a toy in it. Try to make him stay inside his crate for 45 minutes to 1 hour at a time. He may rebel at first but persist with the training. This can be a long term investment on your advantage in the future.
