Housebreaking your puppy is one of the necessities that you need to teach your puppy at an early age

. This is not necessarily a difficult task, but it can be time consuming. The important thing is to know something about young puppies and how they develop. The fact is that puppies grow much faster than human children. By the time a dog reaches a year old, he is already at the same developmental stage as that of a seven-year-old child. By 18 months, your puppy already hits puberty and is at the same developmental stage as that of a young teenager who is just starting to become sexually active. By age two, your dog is reproductively ready to have her own puppies. This is just a small example about how fast a puppy develops into a fully mature dog. Furthermore, as the dog matures, the times it will need to do its business during the day will decrease.

You need to take note that at a very young age, puppies will have to relieve themselves frequently and they will also have to pay their bill more often than when they get older and their pile will get smaller with age as well. For this reason, you need to make sure that you need to walk your puppy the first thing in the morning and the last thing before you retire for the night. Furthermore, you should walk your puppy every half hour during the day or keep him in a training crate if you are at work. Likewise, at night keep your puppy in the training crate.

Of course, it will be a given that your puppy will make an accident in the house. This is very important why you need to clean up the mess as soon as possible. Dogs react to smell and you may smell the fragrance when the poop is fresh, but your puppy will still smell it after you have cleaned it up if you cleaned it up improperly. You need to get special detergents that are on the market which can eliminate the smell from the poop and urine. This is crucial, because your dog has a sense of smell that is much more keen than your sense of smell and can smell minute odors that you can't. This is the main reason why you need to clean your puppy's mess is because when your puppy will smell it, it will think it is his toilet and will more than likely mess there again.

On the walks you should encourage your puppy to do his business outside. Praise him when he does his business outside.

Crate training works the best when you want to quickly housebreak your puppy. The reason why crate training is so effective is that dogs will not do their business in a closed confined space. The key is that you want to keep your dog in his crate when you go to bed for the night or when you are away. Letting him walk around freely at night or unattended can encourage him to do his business in some inconspicuous corner of the house or on your nice carpet. The mess could be there long enough for the chemicals that leave odors that your dog can smell, making him more apt to do his business there again.

In the morning, walk him and praise him after he does his business outside. Likewise after playtime, walk him again and then praise him when he does his business outside. The same thing goes after eating. As your dog gets older, you will not need to walk him as often.

Having a puppy is a great joy and after the initial housebreaking, you will have a dog that will become so inseparable to you and your children and actually become a member of the family.
