With over 16 highlights along its hallowed red brick route, Boston's famed Freedom Trail just maybe the most attraction filled tour in the great state of Massachusetts. Spread out across 2.5 miles along downtown Boston, this crisscrossing trail covers the path of this pioneering city and its path towards democracy with focus on the focal points, figures and institutions that were pivotal in that most noble of pursuits. The brain child of journalist William Schofield the Freedom Trail follows the valiant founding fathers of America in their quest to free the union from British rule starting with the Boston Common which also houses the Visitor information Centre where guests can grab maps, leaflets and other useful insights before heading off on the trail.

After the Boston Common travellers will come across the grand State House which was the epicentre of the state's political foray after the revolution. The Park Street Church is next on the list and served as the venue for William Lloyd Garrison's historic speech in 1829, which was the first of its kind during the era. Adjacent to the church, visitors can see the Old Granary Burial Ground which serves as the last resting place for some of the city's most revered revolutionaries. The gravestones of Samuel Adams, Paul Revere and John Hancock are among the most famous here in addition to that of those who lost their lives in the tragic Boston Massacre.

The King's Chapel and Burying Ground are next in line with one of the oldest pulpits in all of the US to its name. The First Public School is another point of interest along the route as it is the alma mater of Benjamin Franklin and also one of the first public education institutions to be set up in the new republic. The Old Corner Bookstore and the Old South Meeting House are then toured before stopping at the site of the Boston Massacre located just opposite the state house.


The "Cradle of Liberty" Faneuil Hall is also a highlight along the road in addition to Paul Revere's House which is also the oldest existing home in all of downtown Boston. The Old North Church and Copp's Hill Burying Ground are the next stops of the tour which culminates with a visit to the USS Constitution naval yard before ending at the famed Bunker Hill Monument which was the highest monument in America till the Washington Monument was constructed in 1885.
