, but most of us don't really know that much about ringworm. Before we diagnose or treat ringworm, its important for us to look at a few facts about what ringworm actually is.

So what is ringworm anyway???

1.Ringworm is not a worm!

Yes, its true; ringworm is a complete misnomer. So if you believe that you have ringworm, don't worry, the rash on your skin is NOT caused by a worm that somehow found its way into your body you can breathe a sigh of relief! Ringworm is actually a fungal infection called tinea, and is caused by fungus, not a parasite.

2.Ringworm is named for the ring-shaped rash that it leaves.

That's where the word "worm" comes into play. In earlier times, the tinea infection was mistaken to be caused by a worm because the ring shaped rash looked suspiciously like a worm right underneath the skin. This mistake is further supported by the fact that the rash has a raised edge which makes it seem even more like a worm right under the surface of the skin. Although the official name for the infection is Tinea, ringworm remains the most common name.

Knowledge is power! It is very important to know as much as you can about any infection before trying any medications or over the counter drugs to treat or prevent it. Perhaps the most important thing to know about ringworm is that it can be cured completely naturally! So breathe another sigh of relief - ringworm can be cured simply and effectively.
