Tri-Series in Bangladesh 2010 – India v Sri Lanka – A quick look
It simply looks like the Sri Lankans have bought all the luck in this year which
lends its hand in accepting the reward for their victory against India. The 2nd match between
Cricket India and
Cricket Sri Lanka, at Dhaka on the 5th of January was one of the remarkable matches for the Sri Lankans with Thilan Samaraweera bashing 105 runs against 106 balls and 11 4s. The toss was won by SL and they decided on fielding. With the absence of Sachin Tendulkar, India scored 279 with loss of 9 wickets completing 50 overs. It was unexpected to have Gambhir out with just 8 runs before the end of 3rd wicket. The poor opening led to the disappointment in the most of the Indians who were watching the cricket. Our Viru wasnt enough lucky too as he had to drop out when he had just 3 more runs to score to make it half the century. It was a sensational match for Welegedara who took most of the wicket (5 wickets) from the Indian team. Sri Lanka proved their luck by overtaking the Indian team by scoring 283/5 in 48 ovs. They won by 5 wickets. Samaraweera who was awarded the MOM: I enjoyed my innings because of the dew it was easier. Perera batted really well in the end. I thought I had to bat till the 44th over and in these conditions 30 balls can get you 60 runs. Because Mahela is not there, I had to bat at 4 and yesterday's innings gave me a lot of confidence. The luck showered on cricket India in the 5th match between India and Sri Lanka held on January 10, 2010 as India won the match with 8 wickets while Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat. It was 213/10 in 46.1 ovs for the Sri Lankans while India scored 214/2 in 32.4 ovs. It would have been one of the best and an easy match for
cricket India for having the first 4 batsmen play and beat the Sri Lankans. Dinesh Karthik however got little unlucky for not touching his half century. He missed it by just 2 runs! Kohli and Gambhir hit sensational runs of 71 while Yuvraj ended the match with 8 runs not being out. Zaheer Khan was awarded the MOM. All that Dhoni had to say about the match when he was questioned was this was one of the best fielding sides in the park in the last 12 months. Zak bowled well superbly, supported decently by Tyagi and Sree. Mishy varied his pace really well and was rewarded well. Its always important to get off to a good start, and Dinesh and Gauti did just that. Overall very happy with the effort, with Virat's innings being the icing on the cake. Sangakkara: We had to learn something bowling 2nd, but unfortunately things didn't go well today. We lost wickets at regular intervals, but thankfully it wasn't the finals. We didn't really have a target in mind, and the batting effort wasn't nothing much to speak about. After the teams shared the equal victory, the people of Dhaka might have been in a real fix as to who will take away the IDEA cup in the match that was held on the 13th January 2010 at Dhaka. It wasnt a good start again for the Indians in their finals against Sri Lanka. Sehwag again missed out on scoring hit 50s. However it was Suresh Raina who got in all the scores to India, without which on the day, wouldnt have been even possible for the Cricket Indian team to cross their 200. India scored 245/10 in 48.2 ovs while Sri Lanka took away the pride by hitting 249/6 in 48.3 ovs. It was a great 50 for Kumar Sangakkara. Nuwan Kulasekara was the MOM while Sri Lanka won the Finals by 4 wickets. Kumar Sangakkara awarded the Man of the Series for his outstanding run with the bat he gets a Tata Grande MK2 SUV. Chanaka Welegedara is the highest wicket taker of the tournament with 8 wickets. Virat Kohli gets the award for being the highest run scorer in the series (275 runs)
