Trick or Treat? The car dealer tricks that could give you a fright

So if you want to out-smart the dodgy dealers and drive away the car of your dreams, make sure you are one miles ahead and get to grips with their top tricks

Trick 1: An all new low

You approach a dealer about a specific vehicle they are selling. After talking to you for a while the Dealer tells you that you might be able find the vehicle for sale at a lower price if you have a good look around. The Dealer is also kind enough to give you an indication of what you price you could pay for the car. You appreciate the Dealer's honesty and accept his advice. The trick: The Dealer has told you a price which is way too low. You spend time searching for the suggested price and cannot find it. Eventually, you go back to the Dealer and buy the car from him because after what he/she said and after all your research you really feel you can trust him/her

Trick 2: Tick Tock Terror

You are sitting in the Dealership talking to the Dealer. You have just been looking at a car that makes your pulse race. If you're anything like most people, it might be slightly above what you were hoping to pay, but you are tempted. The Dealer can see that you are emotionally bought into the car and he/she decides to force your decision. The Trick: The Dealer tells you that if you sign up to purchase the car there and then, they can offer you a special deal. You feel a rush of terror. In reality you know that you should probably go home and think about it, but after what the Dealer said you are worried to go home and think because then decide that you do want the car after all and by that time you will then missed the great deal. You need to make a decision quick and you make an emotional one: You will purchase the car, after all you are getting a great deal so you can justify signing up now without thinking things through. Unfortunately, the deal you are getting can turn out to be not that special after all.

Trick 3: Driving you to Distraction

You have found the car you want. You have already thought about how great it will be to drive, how much better it will be than the car you drive now and how good it looks. You can't wait to drive off in it, preferably as soon as you can. You were also impressed with the Dealer, after all you got a fantastic deal so you will definitely go back there when you need a new car or happily recommend the Dealer to your friends. You drive your new car off with a great big smile on your face and the Dealer happily waves you off with a smile on their face, but all is not as it seems. The trick: You were so distracted at the thought of the outstanding deal you got on your new car, that you didn't stop to consider what a bad deal you got on your old one. The truth is the Dealer really didn't give you anything at all.
