Storage King Dunstable has kept a local charity going through its extensive network of contacts. Treats for Troops, a local organisation that sends shoe boxes of much needed items to troops in Afghanistan, has been given a new lease of life after Storage King in Dunstable helped spread the word. After founding member Rita Hedgecock became too ill to continue the little boxes of joy, she began the process of closing the organisation down. Rita and her team of volunteers were using a storage unit at Storage King at the time, which is when assistant manager Helen Burgess put them in touch with a contact made at the Women's Institute.

New organiser Fran Clarke was quick to take up her new role so that the allied troops would not miss out on the little home comforts that had been regularly sent. 'Helping our troops has always been something close to my heart'' said Fran 'Thanks to Storage King I have met some wonderful people and now have the chance to do something that really makes a difference''. However the Storage King team didn't stop there, Helen along with branch manager Stuart sourced tables to help the volunteers pack, as well as brown packing paper now regularly donated by onsite removalists Alltime Removals. Treat for Troops is now storing again with Storage King and has a drop off point in reception for anyone wishing to donate food & toiletries.

Treats for Troops send items such as cup-a-soups, snakc bars, nuts, raisins,tea bags, hot choc & Horlicks sachets, salt and pepper, sauce sachets, sweets, chewing gum, toffees, chocolate, jelly beans, toothpaste, deodorant, lip balm, wet wipes, cotton buds, shampoo, tissues, sun cream, socks, hats, pens, books, magazines and dvd's. Items need to be small enough to fit easily into a shoe box alongside other items, and be light in weight. All food items must be within the use-by date.

Unfortunately they cannot send cake with marzipan as it smells like semtex! Also alcohol, pump action, glass and magnetic items are also unsuitable.
