Trustsoldier: A Typical Rogue Antivirus Program
Many people use their computers for work or school
. Others use them to communicate with family and friends, for accessing entertainment, news, and information. No matter what you use your computer for, it is important to keep it in optimal running condition. If it is not, it is possible that there is a rogue antivirus program, such as TrustSoldier, installed in your system.
Introduction to TrustSoldier
TrustSoldier, which is identical to TrustFighter, is part of a series which includes Trust Cop, TrustNinja, SecuritySoldier, and SaveSoldier. These are all rogue antivirus programs, which, despite varying names, have the same goal: they all seek to persuade computer users that they have security risks. In order to resolve these risks and prevent serious harm to their computers, the users are urged to purchase the full protection of the program. Rogue antivirus programs count on computer users being motivated to protect their systems. However, if users do opt to buy the full version, they will notice no difference in their computers performance. The protection offered isnt given.
The bottom line with this program, and so many others like it, is that they want you to purchase the software, and they use a number of different methods to accomplish their goal. Unfortunately, making that final purchase does little for your peace of mind or for the overall health and security of your computer.
TrustSoldier depends on false security scans and pop-up warning messages in order to persuade computer users to purchase their software.
Signs that TrustSoldier Is Installed In Your System
Filters block most pop-up ads from ever appearing on our screens. If you notice that you are suddenly seeing a flood of pop-ups, this is a good indicator that you may have a rogue antivirus program in your computer. These are favorite tools of these programs. These typically take two forms: the warning message and the scan result window.
The warning message will appear in a simple pop-up format, which may be very similar to those issued by your own security program. It is important to be cautious when these appear. It is tempting to either click to close them or to install protection. Make sure you read the message carefully. A typical one from TrustSoldier will read:
Spyware Alert!
Your computer is infected with spyware. It could damage your critical files or expose your private data on the internet. Click here to register your copy of TrustSoldier and remove spyware threats from your PC.
A better term for these messages is ads because they are trying to sell you a product instead of resolve security issues. Its important to note that these can appear in the middle of your screen like a typical pop up or like a Windows Notification Balloon. Those appear from the system tray near the clock on your computer. Both have been reported as part of this program.
Another form the ads take is that of a scan result. These almost always appear fairly large, and they pop up in the middle of your computers screen. Again, these are designed to resemble legitimate warning scans, so take note of the name. TrustSoldier is written in the top right corner, above the logo, Help protect your PC. Underneath, you will find options, including Scan, Quarantine, and Report. It simulates a scan of your files and registry and claims to find several security threats.
Remember, that these are false. The files that it claims are infected are harmless ones that have been created by TrustSoldier for just this purpose.
These pop-ups can be irritating, but TrustSoldier also affects other aspects of your computers performance. It is likely that you will notice that your machine is moving more sluggishly than usual. Tasks as simple as loading a webpage or opening a document take longer, and it may take longer to boot up. TrustSoldier is constantly running the background, using your system resources to power itself. This leaves less for your legitimate programs to run on.
Other changes include hijacked homepages, changed internet settings, and new shortcuts on your desktop. These are all designed so that the user will click on the ad or page and be directed to TrustSoldiers rogue websites. There, the attempt to persuade users to buy their software continues.
How Does TrustSoldier Become Installed in Your System?
These ads can be very persuasive. When confronted with a message stating that you have several severe security threats, it is perfectly natural to want to resolve them as quickly as possible. This often leads to computer users opting to download and purchase TrustSoldiers software. This full version is no different from the trial version, and you will notice no difference. The pop-ups, rogue sites, and slow performance will continue.
You may be wondering how this program became installed in your system when you didnt purchase it. Most often, it finds its way in through backdoors bundled with Trojans. Trojans are used to carry malware into computers and they are associated with a variety of sites, especially those that feature adult, gaming, gambling, and warez content and free and shareware. Sites offering free video downloads are quite often havens for Trojans, such as Zlob. If you download the video, your uninvited guest comes with it.
TrustSoldier and its clone, TrustFighter are often promoted by a Trojan which masquerades as an Adobe Flash update. Because this is a recognized, legitimate program, many people do not think twice before downloading an update. Unfortunately, this can allow these programs and other malware into their systems.
Make sure to read any warning messages or pop-ups that appear on your screen. If you see scan results but did not initiate a scan, close the window with your task manager. Avoid clicking on any part of the ads, or on any part of rogue websites you may be diverted to. If you do suspect that TrustSoldier has been installed, it is important to remove it immediately so you can make sure your computer remains secure.
