Two Strongest Reasons Why You Should Date Even If You Have An Anxiety Disorder
Is dating possible, when you suffer from an anxiety disorder
? Must you abstain from dating till you are cured? Some gurus advise sufferers of anxiety against dating unless if their condition has been overcome. They argue that, it is next to impossible for a person with anxiety to date successfully given his or her nervousness, low self-esteem and lack of confidence. Further, they argue that if such a person tries to date, any rejection he subsequently suffers will in turn re-enforce his condition.
But is it not true, that all of us; no matter who we are in this world; have our own share of problems. If it is no an anxiety disorder, then it may be cancer, poverty or depression, or poor anger management and the list goes on and on. So who are we to set boundaries or spell out what others can or cannot do. After-all, there are many people in worse circumstances who have succeeded in finding love or even marry. Take for example habitual thieves or murderers : well there are many of these who successfully date in spite of their wicked or depraved behaviour. If people such as these can successfully find love, then honestly, there are no grounds for discouraging you from dating just because of your condition.
I know that most likely, if you have an anxiety disorder, you may become very nervous or anxious each time you try to approach someone for a date. But my brother or sister; this should be no reason to give up. In fact there are many things you can do to try and hold yourself together when approaching someone for a date. For example, continuous deep inhalation and exhalation exercises through the nose just before you approach your prospective date helps you to calm down and relax. Also, you can alleviate the anxiety you feel each time you try to approach someone for a date through positive self-talk. And of course, learning to date is like learning to ride a bicycle. When you start off, you fall off a couple of times, but the more you practice the better you master the riding skills. So if you practice mingling with people of all sorts, starting spontaneous conversations and asking for dates, in time dating will become less and less of a challenge to you.
