We're getting close to summer now, so it's about time we dusted off our summer clothes. This guide will help you decide which style of men's shorts to choose, as well as when to wear which style.

Combat Shorts

Combat shorts are a great choice for men. They offer a little more coverage than some styles and are a relatively thick fabric, this makes them perfect for bigger men. A thicker fabric will hold you in and offer a bit more support.

Men's combat shorts are also a great choice because they usually have a number of pockets so there's little danger of forgetting your keys or wallet.

Combat shorts are best worn for casual wear with a comfortable t-shirt. Whilst the fabric is heavy, it is also breathable and should be comfortable in warmer temperatures.

Sports shorts are great if you'll be working out in summer, but should be reserved for this use. You may be able to find sweat shorts that are a great choice for relaxing, but should only be worn for the most casual occasions.

Sports shorts are often shorter than other styles meant for regular wear. Opt for cotton shorts or a pair of cargo shorts instead.

Denim shorts are good for smart/ casual summer functions, like barbeques. Denim shorts work well with a t-shirt and check shirt, whilst other styles can look a bit too casual. Denim shorts can occasionally be a little too warm in summer, but as long as you opt for a pair that fit well and aren't too tight you should be ok.

Cotton Shorts

Cotton shorts are the ideal choice for summer, especially on if you're going on holiday. Cotton shorts are comfortable, breathable and look great. They can be worn with either t-shirts or casual shirts, and are available in a wide range of colours and patterns.

You'll often find cotton shorts in the combat or cargo style, these are lighter than traditional combat shorts and may be better suited to hot weather than cargo shorts.

ThreeQuarterLength Trousers

Three quarterlength trousers are a great summer alternative to shorts, and are perfect for bigger men. Three quarter length trousers offer all the cool benefits of shorts, with a smarter look that's also more comfortable.

Just because it's summer doesn't mean trousers should be discarded entirely. There are plenty of fabrics that allow comfort and style in summer. Linen is a firm favourite for men's summer trousers.
