There are various types of central heating devices available for the purposes of heating the home and providing hot water. There are three main types of central heating systems. One is a boiler system. Here, hot water is received from a closed device. An open vented system is also available where heat is generated through a radiator circuit. Another type is a gas central heating system. Here gas is used to supply the heat. A pilot light is needed in order for the heater to work. This pilot light must stay lit for this purpose. Many newer heating systems that use gas are now equipped with electric starters which makes them run more smoothly.

An electric heating system is the third type. Here, electricity is used for the heater to work.

Both gas and electric are considered to be economic in terms of monthly cost. Both are energy efficient and are known to heat homes very well. You will need to check with your local utility companies to find out the general charges for each. If you have other appliances in your home that also work on gas, the cost of running a gas heating system will be added to your monthly bill. The same is true for an electric system.

It is important to remember that not all homes are equipped for a gas heating system. Should you have a choice between gas and electric, it would really pay off in the future to do your homework ahead of time to see which would be recommended from an economic stand point.

There are definitely advantages to all three types of central heating systems. Before choosing one, you will need to know if your home can accommodate it, but might also want to learn the advantages of each. This will help you make an informed decision.
