Founded in 1883, the institution was one among the original eight Public Ivy institutions in the state. Accreditation was given to the university by the American Association of Universities in 1929. A major center for all types of academic research and experimentations, its research budget exceeds $640 million.

University of Texas has the fifth largest campus enrollment in the entire nation. Earlier it had the largest enrollment in the country from 1997-2003. Campus of the university spreads over 1,438.5 acres of land with 423.5 acres for the main campus that has 150 buildings of 18,000,000 square feet area. Faculties in the university include many recipients of Nobel Prize, Wolf Prize, Pulitzer Prize, National Medal of Science, and various other awards.

Games and Sports

Athletes of the university are members of Big 12 Conference and compete as the Texas Longhorns. Since date the university has bagged four National Football Championships. It has also claimed more titles in the men and women sports events in comparison to other schools in the Conference. They have also won 88 Olympic medals and were named the best Sports College of United States in 2002.

Academic Profile

In the 2010 assessment by U.S News & Word Report, the university was ranked 45th in the country overall and 13th among the public universities. McCombs School of Business in the university ranked seventh among all undergraduate business programs in United States.

University of Texas held 70th position in the world in the ranking given by U.S News & World Report and 38th position in ranking given by Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2010.
