The motto consists of two Spanish syllables NO and DO and a figure 8. According to its pronunciation in Spanish, it sounds quite like It [Seville] has not abandoned me.
The story underneath this motto is that there was a king in Sevilles history named Alfonso X who was also a poet, astronomer, astrologer, musician and linguist. Later, when his son, Sancho IV of Castile, tries to usurp his throne, the people of Seville were still loyal to their king. That is believed to be the origin of the motto.
