Unusual Household Items To Keep Your Hands Warm

At times blowing and tucking your armpits or rubbing them with each other is just not enough to keep your arms warm

. Not only are these methods tiresome, they are barely successful. Luckily, there are several items inside your house which are more powerful and effective warmers for your palms as well as your ft. They may be also lightweight and can be introduced in trips. All you must do is being resourceful and inventive in generating these warmers.

Grain Bags

This is a comfortable and reusable way to keep your body warm by creating your own hot compress! All you have to do is to find a clean cotton sock that you will not use anytime soon. If you're having problem choosing, you can just pick as sock with a missing pair. Or you can also use two pieces of cloth and seam them together leaving only a hole to put the grains in. Fill them with any uncooked grains you have in your house, so long as it is only one variety in the cloth you will use. It may be wheat, corn, buckwheat hulls, barley, oatmeal but the most effective is rice. You may also use flax seed, cherry pits. After putting in the grain of your choice, tie the open end with a string or complete the seam. If you want to use it for warmth, put it in the microwave and let it heat for a few minutes, depending on how hot you want it to be. You can also use these as cold compress; just let it stay in the freezer for a few hours.

After heating it in the microwave or leaving it in the freezer, you can now use this to warm or apply cold compress on the body part you where you need it. This also doubles as a stress-reliever because you can knead this with your hands if you wish to.

Potatoes

You can heat a few small, unpeeled potatoes in the microwave for a few minutes and hold them in your hands or even put it in your pocket when you're on the go. The heat from the potatoes will last for a while. If you don't need it anymore, you may remove the skin and put it in your soup or cooking!

Battery and Tin Foil

This one may be seen as less homemade but it is still a very effective method to keep your hands warm. You use a small battery and wrap a piece of tinfoil the long way around the battery, covering both nodes but leaving two sides open. This will give out heat in a few moments. It is also important not to wrap the foil too many times, otherwise, it may not work. When you want to stop the heat, all you have to is remove the tinfoil. And if you want it to be back again, simply re-warp the battery in the foil.

Stones and Tin Foil

If you're camping out, it is a good idea to bring foil with you. Or if you lost electricity in your home, foil may be your lifesaver. Not only does it provide an easy way to heat food, you can also wrap stones with foil and use it as a heater. First, you pick out a few medium sized stones that are as smooth as possible. Place them in the campfire or heat source until you are ready to use it. Cut a large piece of foil and fold it in half to pull out the stones from the heat. Individually wrap the stones until you get your desired warmth. Then, wrap the foil-wrapped rocks in towels, put it in your sleeping bag or anywhere near you, and let the heat dissipate. The tinfoil will gradually release the heat so that it lasts for a long time. You can use this to warm your hands or any body part.
