The revision of the Form I-601 , Application for Waiver of Grounds of Excludability
was recently announced by United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A person who is termed as ineligible to be admitted to the United States can seek a waiver of certain grounds of inadmissibility using this USCIS immigration form.
In the revised version of the Form I-106 a list of grounds of inadmissibility has been included and applicants have to mark those that apply to them. This new version of the Form I-601 makes it easier for the applicants to complete the form.
In the earlier version, only the forms instruction contained the information about the grounds of inadmissibility. However, the revised version of the Form I-601 includes a section that allows applicants to describe reasons for their inadmissibility.
Waiver of the filling fee in certain cases where an individual is unable to pay is also being considered by USCIS. The fee waiver will be granted only if individuals meet specific conditions. For example, an individual who is an approved Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) self-petitioner or an individual who has valid T or U nonimmigrant status who is not capable of paying the filling fee is eligible for the waiver.
USCIS will accept the previous edition of this USA immigration form dated 10/30/08 only till November 20, 2009. From November 21 onwards, only the revised version of the Form I-601 dated 04/06/09 will be accepted and all the previous versions of the form will be rejected.
Residents of the United States applying for a status as permanent resident can file this USCIS immigration form with the local office, which has jurisdiction over the place they reside. Non-resident United States individuals on the other hand, can file the Form I-601 with the American embassy or the consulate where they are applying for the visa.
