Use What's In Your Home For Gym Equipment
Before you spend a fortune on gym membership, consider whether you will be able to
maintain a three-times-a-week schedule that will help you lose weight and get value for your money. Use what's in your home for gym equipment, and save the money.
Chairs are Exercise Equipment
Sit on a straight-backed chair placed in a clear area in your home. Slowly raise your left leg until it is parallel with the floor, then lower it again. Do ten repetitions with each leg, or twenty if you feel ten is too easy.
These Weights are Really Free
To develop the muscles in your arms, you can use your body weight instead of buying expensive dumbbells. Traditional push-ups on the floor may be a bit strenuous at first, so try this variation instead. Face the back of your sofa, standing about arms-length away. Leaning forward, place your hands shoulder-width apart on the back of the sofa, not on the cushions. Now bend your arms until your chest touches the top of the sofa. Straighten your arms until you are in a pivot position again. Repeat this five times every day. Once it starts to feel easy, you can move back to the old-fashioned push ups on the floor. Since you are already lying on the floor doing your push-ups, roll onto your side and do some leg lifts. Make sure you have enough room so that you don't kick grandma's vase off the table, or hurt yourself in the process.
Take a Walk or Take the Stairs
Another excellent way to exercise on the cheap is the good, old-fashioned walk. The movement is great exercise for your body, but it can also reduce stress. Take a walk at lunchtime, before work, or after dinner. During the walk you will have time to clear your head, breathe some air and let the tensions of the day evaporate. If you live or work in a building that has an elevator, most people will hop in the box rather than climbing the stairs. But taking the stairs a couple of times a day will help build your muscles and your heart. The exercise can also invigorate you after that post-lunch lethargy.
Gardening is good for the Body
Gardens need a lot of attention, and the bending down, pushing and pulling and other movements that go into weeding, mowing lawns and trimming bushes will give you a full body workout. Spend a couple of hours in the garden each week and you'll not only see the results in your garden, but on your body as well.
