Many people don't know that you can use Facebook for business marketing as well as social networking.

There are a number of ways in which you can use Facebook for business marketing:

Facebook Adverts. These are suitable for businesses with advertising budgets of less than US$30,000. That's most of us, I guess, if we're new to online business. This is Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising similar to Google AdWords. You can target your advertisement by demographics, i.e. age, gender, location, keywords, etc. and as you select your target, Facebook will show you how many users you will get your ad in front of. Like with AdWords, you bid for clicks and you will be able to see which bids are winning the auctions at the moment. If you use this method, be sure to limit your daily spend and make sure that you can afford this limit. Be careful too, to make it absolutely clear what you're advertising as you don't want to pay for clicks from people who actually aren't interested in your product.

Pages for Business. You can create a page on Facebook which specifically markets your business. This is easy to do through your personal account; you just need to be an authorised representative of the business. You can invite people to your page and you can create advertisements for it as well as using the "Like" facility. Your page name should reflect the nature of your business; in fact, using the actual name of your website is a good idea. You can't use generic terms such as internet marketing or baby clothes.

Facebook Places. Use Facebook places on your iPhone to check on the real physical location of any of your friends. If they're near your business, for example a store, you can tag them and invite them to visit.

Facebook Deals. Deals means that you can advertise discounts or gifts to reward your customers when they log into Facebook. If they check out your deal, all their friends can get to know about it too.
