With literally hundreds of countries to choose from, choosing an international destination for a vacation can be a daunting task. Whether you're a foreign national looking to vacation here in the United States or a US national looking for a place to vacation outside the US, you will also want to look into purchasing a worldmed insurance policy.

As any expatriate will tell you, any stay, no matter the duration, is not always a bed of roses. Your insurance policy can help guard against any costs you may incur due to medical emergencies, prescriptions and even travel delays or lost luggage! Although an added expense, a worldmed insurance policy could make all the difference while out of the country. While there are insurers that deal strictly with occasions such as this, you may be wise to check with one of your current insurers as to what kind of international services they have. If they do offer a travel health plan, you may be able to save money due to a multi-policy discount.

Insurance aside, you can help minimize your list of choices by determining who will be accompanying you on your vacation. If you're flying solo, than the sky is the limit and you'll have to find another way to pare down your list. However, if there are others going on the trip, it's wise to take into consideration your counterparts tastes and desires. If it's a honeymoon, than perhaps you should consider a place with a bit more romance than the ancient ruins of Pompey. On the other hand, if it's a family vacation and you're a foreign national considering a vacation here in the US; then perhaps a visit to Orlando, Florida is in order.

Another way to help you eliminate some destinations off your list is to count up the cost. If money is not an issue, then, again, the sky is the limit. On the other hand, however, if money is an issue, you can safely remove any destinations which will require an exorbitant amount of money to vacation there. Along these same lines, you can also eliminate destinations that cannot accommodate you as far as the activities that you would like to partake in while vacationing. Even if a country does cater to your hobbies, depending on the time of year, those activities may not be possible. Other countries, however, may be able to satiate you year round.

If you like to live on the edge, than perhaps you may not object to vacationing in a country where political unrest is an everyday thing. On the other hand, if safety is a concern than it would be wise to steer clear of these destinations. On top of that, unless you're extremely interested in the various geological sundries that a country has to offer, you may do well to steer clear of destinations where natural disasters are commonplace.
