As clinical research involves human participants, researchers and their teams are legally and ethically obliged to protect them. The subjects should be treated as autonomous individuals whose welfare and rights should be respected. The investigators must thrive to minimize the harm and enhance the benefits to the study population.

Ethical process in the clinical research is quite formalized and centralized. Various international ethical codes and guidelines have been issued in the context of clinical research. These include:

No clinical trials involving human subjects should be conducted without strict adherence to the principles given in these codes. This signifies the importance of the knowledge of ethics for the students of clinical research.
