Victoria Square located at the heart of Christchurch

, New Zealand is one of the historical places in the country. This landmark that starts at the corner of Armagh Sts and Colombo broadens across the river over the Victoria Bridge and on towards the Christchurch Town Hall. Once known as Market Square, Victoria Square has thrived over the years to become a foremost attraction.

The square that features quite a history still houses some of its older attractions such as the Captain Cook statue built in 1932 and the Queen Victoria statue built in 1903 overlooks a gorgeous plethora of flora. Another attraction considered a historical landmark is the Floral Clock tower presented to the city in 1953. This gorgeous Clock requires up to seven thousand plants during spring and autumn for the floral design.

Another attraction that overlooks the Victoria Square complex is the H.L. Bowker fountain. Constructed and designed by Victor Hean in 1931 was one of the first electrically illuminated fountains in Australasia. Hean also funded this attraction a businessman, whose office looks over the picturesque Victoria Square. Today, the fountain still stands in close proximity to the former animal pond site.

Visitors to the Square will also see a Mori carving that stands six metres tall. This artistic monument was unveiled to the public in December 1994 and it still stands as one of the Square's foremost possessions. The Mori also known as the Poupou - was initiated as a project to commemorate the signing of the treaty of Waitangi. This fascinating attraction carved out of a totara trunk by Riki Manuel a master carver, illustrates three themes; ancestors, food resources and the Ngi Tahu-Waitaha people.

At the Square, tourists will be exposed to more than just the few attractions mentioned. History, tradition, culture and people from all walks of life are seen here. A visit to this grand land will definitely be a long lasting memory.
