Videos - A Powerful Teaching Aid For Making Money Online

The video presentation is now the number one universal marketing strategy say all the gurus. It can also be the number one marketing skills, teaching aid for those mentoring and teaching others to make money online.

Online teaching has been around now for over twenty years. Many mistakes have been made and many lessons learned over that time to make the video one of the most powerful teaching aids. It may not though be a stand-alone medium. The written word is still very important and the two together have been shown to be far more powerful than either one or the other separately.

In the early days film or video was used to supplement and illustrate written lessons. The emphasis has now changed, due mostly to the ease of production so that the video has become the primary aid with the written word secondary. They are both though important to an effective outcome.

The video is particularly useful for teaching new skills as it partially takes the place of a teacher pupil relationship. It still though cannot give the direct feedback of that relationship. That being so, some care and thought needs to go into the preparation of a teaching video.

Things to do and things to don't.

1. We all have the need to form a relationship with our teachers or mentors so introduce the teacher with either a live intro or at least a photograph. At difficult areas in the lesson, re-introduce the teacher. This aids confidence in the pupil.

2. Build your video around a specific subject or strategy. Do not try to teach too much at one time. Learning needs to be focused and to introduce too much causes confusion. This is especially true when using a small computer screen. The reasons for which I cannot go into here.

3. Explain your expected outcome and its relevance within your teaching program. This should be part of the introduction and needs only to be short.

4. Break your subject into its constituent parts just as you would for teaching a skill such as cooking or basket weaving. Show the complete strategy or skill at the onset and then enumerate the stages needed to reach that outcome.

5. Show each building block towards the whole and give a short resume at the end of each stage. This can either be spoken, a slide presentation or preferably both. If the strategy you are illustrating is complicated or takes time, give an extended resume to the point you have reached.

6. The end stage of the video should again show the complete operation together with a preferably written resume of all the stages taken to reach this expected outcome.

The one problem with a video presentation over a one to one or live group presentation is how to evaluate the outcome. A self evaluation is the most usual method of achieving this. A downloadable written check list with questions and separate answers is probably the best way of providing a self assessment.

Needless to say all videos need careful preparation to get as professional product as possible.

Do not use extra animations or graphics unless they contribute directly to the subject.

When using a computer screen shot do not wander with the pointer, it destroys concentration.

Avoid anecdotal content. If you really feel that it will add to the learning experience, put it in the introduction. A little humor relaxes the pupil and helps learning.

Do the best you can but do not try to be perfect the first time. Perfection is unobtainable and you can always do it again at a later date.

Making videos is fun but it does require some time and effort to make them effective. Good videos as primary teaching aids though are invaluable.
