Viewpoints on Wearing Glasses or Not in the Interview

As we know, it is very difficult to obtain an ideal job under the intensive competition of job market. People are trying to look for ways that can help them increase chance of landing a job. For example, they are likely to dress professionally and behave politely. Eventually, some people are inclined to believe weaning glasses may contribute to the success of job hunting. Do you believe it? Can glasses make you look smarter? Can it help you in a job interview?

According to one British report in January, 2011, recently researchers find interviewers are prone to hire interviewees wearing glasses, because eye wearers seem professional and intelligent. An interesting project was conducted by Psychology professor Cary Cooper, from Lancaster University. They selected several hundred British companies and veteran human resources experts rationally and gave them questionnaires. What's more, they chose ideas from other workers. Finally, they made the objective comment on whether people wear glasses or not in an interview.

The study shows a third of adults think spectacle-wearers look more professional, while 43 percent think they appear more intelligent. Another six percent would wear glasses for the purpose of chasing fashion, and nine percent think spectacles glasses the wearer look more attractive. Moreover, forty percent think interviewers are more likely to be interested in the wearer and ask them questions, then they get the chance in the end.

Psychology professor Cary Cooper, from Lancaster University, said: It is obvious that businesses want to employ intelligent staff but the idea that intelligent people wear glasses is an old stereotype that still exists in the present world. Although this concept is not absolutely right, it does make influence on interviewers' mind subconsciously.

In fact, some human resources experts claim interviewees with glasses give them the diligent and intelligent impression. Although they know various kinds of reasons may contribute to eyewear, such as inherent poor eyesight. But eyewear does affect their judgments in the subconscious.

Besides, there are some people who wear fake glasses. They believe it can help them get the potential chance to obtain a job. Personally thinking, whether eyewear helps you or not depends on what job you apply. If you apply a position as a teacher, it may help you impress interviewers. While eyewear doesn't fit some other jobs, such as work as a receptionist. Generally speaking, you'd better think rationally and make full consideration before an interview in order to get well prepared.
