A local resident of Cardiff has taken matters into his own hands to protect the residents of his street, and it has had interesting results.

Three years ago, there was a police van that regularly sat on the road, and this deterred people from speeding in the area and being a menace to the children that played on the roads. But the police took the van away as they felt it was unnecessary and "not longer met the speed requirements for the city."

Ever since, residents have reported that the road has become like a grand prix circuit, with boy racers putting lives at risk by not minding the speed limits. So two months ago, he purchased the ex police van, and spent ten minutes sticking black and yellow striped tape to the van, around it and on the back to emulate a window, to make the van look like a speed camera van.

Mr Donnelly has reported that drivers slow down the instant they see the van, with people even stopping to ask if they have received a ticket. My Donnelly has three children of his own, aged fifteen, eighteen and twenty two, and is aware that lots of small children live in the vicinity and play on the roads. A south Wales police spokesman has confirmed that he is not breaking any laws, as he isn't displaying the proper insignia of a speed van.
