Village hall fitted with new catering equipment

It is often businesses that make use of catering equipment

, but one community organisation has proved that small non-profit organisations can also benefit from it too.

According to reports in the Aberdeen Press and Journal, the Portgordon village hall association sub-committee has invested in catering kitchen equipment.

The products were bought after a sum of 15,053 was secured from the Scottish Community Foundation, which was set up in 1996 and works with people and organisations, providing them with administration and management support services.

Among the catering kitchen equipment purchased by the sub-committee were large pots and pans and a five-hob range cooker.

Thanks to the addition of the catering equipment, pensioners from the local community can receive hot food in a new lunch club.

Every Tuesday, between 20 and 25 such people will meet for a meal and a chat.

Commenting on the initiative, hall chairman Alan Scott said: "The lunch club is as much about social interaction as it is about having food."

He added that the equipment could cater for more individuals and it will be used during special events, such as an upcoming fundraiser.

Mr Scott added: "We are in looking for funding to carry out a feasibility study to see what the community would want for the hall, if we refurbished it."

The event to generate cash is to involve a traditional Scottish meal and it will take place on November 26th.

In order for the plans put forward by the organisation involving a study to go ahead, it needs to raise a further 10,000. If it achieves this, it will liaise with architects and surveyors.

The hall committee has already secured 10,000 of funding from Moray Leader, which is an organisation that provides cash and assistance to projects that are based on the idea of strengthening rural communities.
