Visit Iran And Discover Ancient Persia
If you ever visit Iran and go to the historic sights of pre-Islam Iran
, you will see lots of remnants from ancient Persia that will tell you a lot about how the empires of Iranians during the antiquity ruled their part of the world. Some of these sights are:
Persepolis: The Ceremonial Palace Complex of Achaemenians
When more than 23 different nations came together at one point to pay homage to the Persian empire's emperor, Persepolis was the ceremonial palace complex where these meetings occurred. Such meeting took place once a year at the beginning of the Iranina New Year called Nowruz.
Shush: Apadana Palace of Darius the Great
When you visit Iran in proper season when traveling to the south is not bothering you with heat, make sure you go to Shush, ancient Susa, to see the palace of Darius. When the Persian emperor was ruling a huge empire, he stayed in his winter capital palace, Apadana, in this town.
Pasargadae: The First Capital City of Achaemenian Empire
The founder of the Persian empire, Cyrus the great, established his first central government in Pasargadae. His reunification of Persians with Medes and Elamites was the first move of such kind that brought all Iranian ethnic groups under one administration.
Bishapur: Sassanians' Ancient City
Shapour, the mighty Sassanian emperor, who defeated Valerian, the Roman emperor, has built a city called after him at the south west of today's Shiraz. This walled town fortified by some strongholds on the adjacent hills and solid bastions along the walls, is located at Tang-e-Chogan, Chogan gorge. When you visit Iran, you can take a one day trip to this sight when you stay in Shiraz.
Other Historic Sights
There are some other sights that are interesting enough to go to although they are not exactly constructed at the time of Persian empires. For instance, the ancient palaces of Ecbatana in today's Hamedan are good examples of some royal buildings of Elamite empire.
Firoozabad remnants of the first Sassanian empire founded by Ardeshir, especially the palace located on the northern part of it, is another sights where the splendor of the first palace of the Sassanian empire can be seen.
All mentioned here were historic sights outdoors. You can visit Iran museums at different cities and find plenty of items belonging to ancient Persia.
