A half an hour ride from Waikiki on bus Route 22 takes you to a bay unique in more than one way. After arriving, a short walk from the bus stop places you on an ample area. As you reach the edge of that area, the view down below is stunning. First-time visitors from all over the world hold their breath as they marvel at the scene of such gorgeous place, and the view of its waters extending into the open ocean bringing in waves of turquoise waters.
Those see-through crystalline waters allow to distinctively perceive the coral that nature's mastermind created to further decorate Hanauma Bay. As expected, a number of visitors want to see the always fascinating scene under those waters. It all becomes more exciting when a visitor discovers those big size turtles that visit the bay, or whales that stopped not far from the bay to take a break or to just play.

* Conditions & Facilities *
To go down to the bay and beach, Hanauma Bay management requires visitors to pay a fee of under ten U.S. dollars per person. Optionally, visitors may pay another small fee for a shuttle to take them to the bay and beach. There is yetanother optional fee for the same shuttle to bring them back up to ground level. Most visitors choose to walk all the way down as they marvel at the scenery, but to pay the fee for the shuttle to bring them back up to ground level after a day of activities and excitements.
Once on the beach, visitors find a place where they may rent a mask or a set of mask, snorkel, and fins. It is acceptable to bring in one's own set which we may either own or it was provided by one's hotel.
* Recommendations *
An ounce of prevention. The beach provides not many areas of shade. Since a sunscreen is likely to wear out in an hour and a half or two, it is wiser to permanently wear a t-shirt, a hat, and ~if possible~ to reapply sunscreen after perspiration, skin oils, and the surrounding conditions renders the previous application nearly useless.
A word of caution. The Snack Bar at ground level is well-provided; however, prices are high. You may wish to get what you need before you arrive. No one regrets visiting Hanauma Bay, but acquiring valid knowledge in advance remains the wiser way to not invest more money than necessary in this joyful and fulfilling experience which gives memories to bring back home when visiting Hawaii.
* Average Time Needed*
A visit to Hanauma Bay may take the entire morning hours, or the entire day. Visitors willing to arrive early may spend the morning hours at the bay; and then, continue shortly before mid-day on to Sea Life Park tomarvel at the dolphins' show by past mid-day. To do so, go to the same bus stop you got off at, and take the bus Route 22 displaying Sea Life Park above the windshield.
