It is known to be the largest seller of Marque of the group. Having the three best selling cars in the top ten list, this group is known to have the highest number of cars . It was originated in the year of 1937 , by the German Labour front , the Nazi s. This group is known to be the largest shareholders for th Audi. About 95 % of the shares of Audi are known to be owned by this group.

The company primarily has two sections- the automotive section and the other one is the financial service section. The automotive section contributes to the prouction of commercial and passenger cars . On the other hand, the financial section provides services for finance, in direct banking, leasing, insurance etc. The brand offers a wide range of cars starting from the low consumption cars to luxury vehicles, which include the Audi , Lamborghini, the Skoda and many more . The introduction of type 3 models in the year 1961 introduced a new era in the industry The front of the car was drawn out to 2 inches in order so that the tires can be laid flat . Volkswagen successfully purchased the Auto union in 1964 and in 1969, it had the ownership of the NSU Motorenwerke. Volkswagen is also known to be a renowned name in manufacturing diesel engine. Its partnership with mercedes marked a new era in the technology of diesel engine. Volkswagen came with the introduction of a new utility vehicle in 2000, the Touareg, combining the primary parts of Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7. It proves to be nice handling vehicle . However it had a less number of sales, owing to the absence of the third row seat and improper consumption of fuel. In September 2006, the group came up with a new model , called the City Golf. A brand introduction came in the year 2010, with the VW 1L. It was a vehicle meant for two persons. This vehicle was light in weight. It had a magnesium frame and had a skin of carbon fibre as its cover. The parts of the vehicle were primarily meant to reduce the weight of the vehicle. It had a weight as light as 290 kg, which were primarily due to the compinents like the carbon fibre wheels, ceramic bearings, aluminium brakes. Absence of rear view mirrors contribute to aero dynamics and the reduction of weight. Instead of the rear view mirrors, cameras have been used that provides information to the drivers. It was execptionally fuel efficient. With a gallon of the fuel, the car can cover a distance of 378 kms.
