Warm Your House The Sensible And Cheap Way With An Underfloor Heating System

Underfloor heating systems are not a new concept

. In fact evidence suggest they have been in use since around 37BC. The Korean society, which relied on this form of heating during this time, has recently rejected other forms of central heating and have now returned to this effective method of climate control. What has changed however is the technology incorporated into the systems, the reasons behind their use and the link they have with reducing environmental impacts. What better way to warm your house, and save money, this winter than through the use of an underfloor heating system?

An underfloor heating system regardless of its mechanism effectively turns your floor into a heater. The two main types of systems are the hot water, or wet, and electric mat, or dry. The former of these involves heating water which then travels through previously laid down conduits situated in or underneath the floor. The dry system works in a similar fashion but the floor is heated with electric heating elements as opposed to the warmed water. Depending on your source of energy for heating, both systems could be climate friendly if renewables such as solar are used instead of gas, oil or solid fuels.

Careful selection of the proper system for your type of flooring means that you are not restricted to what type of floor you can put the heating into. It can be used on the whole gamete of flooring from timber through to carpet, laminate and tiles. Similarly advancement in technology means you are no longer constrained to the bottom level of a dwelling.

The systems are extremely popular in Europe and justifiably so. The heating they provide is in contrast to other forms commonly used in that they supply the heat from the floor upwards, warming the lower part of the body first. This gives a feeling of warmth as opposed to stuffiness than can be associated with the reverse situation. The heat is being generated over a large even surface, so too is the heat distributed. The machinery required to run the heating system is not within sight and this not only improves the look of the room but also saves space. This is a bonus for smaller areas.

Most common methods of heating a room are required to be near windows and doors or rely on heating outside air. These all result in a loss of heat to the surroundings via leakage. The latter method in addition uses more energy and costs a lot more to run when compared to underfloor heating systems.

The health benefits of these systems include the reduction of skin burns as there is not a point of direct contact between the heat source and body and asthmatics breathing easier as no particles are being moved within the room.

There is nothing cosier than walking on a floor that is heated except the feeling you experience when you receive your next heating bill and home valuation.
